By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 24, 2019: Odisha is once again in the limelight for setting benchmarks in disaster management.

The commissioner-cum-secretary to Odisha government and the managing director of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, B P Sethi has been invited to deliver the keynote address at Disaster Resilience Week programme being hosted by Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the United Nations, an official statement said.

The event is scheduled to be held in Bangkok from August 26 to August 28, 2019.
Sethi will deliver the key note address on August 26.

“With this Odisha will have another foot print in disaster management at the global level,” Sethi said. The OSDMA secretary said he will focus on how governments in Asia and the Pacific region can further cooperate in improving the disaster management systems.

Sethi made it clear Odisha’s success follows continuous endeavor of over 20 years. “Disaster resilience can be built through empowerment, inclusion, shared understanding and joint strategic action plan among the nations in Asia Pacific region”, he told reporters.
