By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 25, 2018: Displaced persons have something to cheer about at last in Odisha.

The Supreme Court on Saturday directed the Odisha government to provide irrigation facilities to people displaced by construction of dam on Brahmani River in Deogarh district.

Upholding the Orissa High Court’s April 4, 2018 ruling, the division bench of Supreme Court comprising Justices Abhay Manohar Sapre and S Abdul Nazeer has asked the state government to provide irrigation facilities to the displaced persons while disposing of a special leave petition filed by 27 displaced persons.

The state government had provided three acres of unirrigated land each to the 27 displaced persons as part of their rehabilitation in 1983.
