By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, June 24, 2018: One kg of gold worth Rs 31 lakh was seized by the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Sunday, officials said.

This is the fifth gold seizure in the last 10 days. The Customs officials have seized two gold bracelets and a necklace from two persons who arrived here from Bangkok and Dubai.

Both the passengers, who hail from Delhi and Odisha, were detained by the Customs officials.

About eight kgs of gold has been seized at the city airport in the past two and a half months, official sources said.

Acting on a tip-off, the Customs sleuths intercepted them at the airport and searched their body and baggage which led to recovery of gold items in form of chains and kadas of foreign origin.

While one passenger is native of Delhi and the other one is a resident of Jagatsinghpur district in the State. Both were detained by the Customs sleuths.

On June 21, the Customs officials had seized a cylindrical gold bar from the passenger which was wrapped with adhesive tapes from his rectum. He had arrived at the airport here from a Bangkok flight.
