Dadan LabourersBy Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, April 30, 2017 : The Odisha government on Saturday signed a memorandum with the Tata Trusts (MoU) for the security and welfare of inter-state labourers of Odisha.

Labour commissioner Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav and chief financial officer and Secretary Tata Trusts- Burzis Taraporevala, signed the MoU in the presence of chief minister Naveen Patnaik here.

The Tata trust would help implement the special action plan (SAP) for the safety and welfare of the migrated labourers, official sources said.

The prime objective behind the collaboration between the State government and Tata Trusts is to introduce people friendly technologies for registration of workforce that migrates to different parts and support welfare of migrant workers.

As part of the MoU, people will be sensitized on improving the standard of livelihood of migrated labourers especially from Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Bolangir districts and ensure that they also get benefited through various schemes of the state government both socially and economically.

A pilot project would be implemented in 30 gram Panchayats of Bolangir and Nuapada districts in the first phase. The state government has earmarked an expenditure of Rs 134 crore for addressing the problems of the migrant labourers.

The officials expect direct access to some 20 lakh construction and migrant workers through the database to be prepared shortly. Besides, help desks would also be setup in states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu to resolve various problems faced by the labourers from the state. A database of all migrated workers in the state will be prepared.
