highwayBy Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, December 17, 2016 : Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday asked the officials to lay additional 2000 kilometres of concrete roads under Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana (GGY) by March 2017.

Chairing a review meeting at the Secretariat today on construction of concrete roads in rural areas, Patnaik said that the State Government has expanded the GGY scheme to all 30 districts of the state even after the Center stopped the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF).

He further asked the officials to prioritise construction in Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) hamlets and tribal villages.

Naveen government has already allocated Rs 1,000 crore during this financial year for GGY, a release by the Chief Minister’s office said.

This fund is being utilized to build rural roads, set up water sources and electrification.

Odisha government launched the GGY scheme in 2006-07 to provide additional developmental assistance to the targeted 11 districts of the state not covered under the BRGF.
