By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, November 23, 2016 : The Odisha Government on Wednesday approved the supplementary budget proposal for 2016-17 at the meeting of council of ministers chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The total size of the budget stands at Rs 5,983.08 crore, out of which Rs 5126.04 crore has been earmarked as ‘plan expenditure’ and Rs 795.98 crore as ‘non-plan expenditure’. Emphasis has been laid on energy and water resources sectors. Besides, implementation of Swachh Bharat programme has been given priority.

Nevertheless, this year’s supplementary budget is much less than Rs 10,227.65 crore earmarked for the supplementary budget in the last fiscal. The supplementary budget will also have adequate provision for different social sector schemes launched by the Government.

The proposal will be placed before the Assembly on the first day of the winter session scheduled to begin on December 1.

The council of ministers further discussed the demand for funds from several departments and approved several of them.
