assemblyBy Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, March 28, 2016 : Odisha Assembly on Monday witnessed an uproarious scene with Opposition members created ruckus over drinking water crisis in the state and jaundice outbreak in Cuttack.

Opposition Congress demanded an apology from the government for failing to provide drinking water to people.

“The state government should tender apology for being unable to provide drinking water even as BJD remained in power for above 16 years. This government has lost moral right to rule the state,” Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said.

The Opposition leader also alleged that people are being harassed when they approach officials for repair of defunct tube wells.

“The officials at the ground level are harassing people. Following my intervention, the officials repaired a tube well. Can a common man in village approach higher officials to get their work done?” Mishra asked.

Admitting to the water crisis in the state, Rural Development minister Badrinarayan Patra said while replying to an adjournment motion debate in the House, “We do not deny drinking water scarcity in the state. It may create grave situation in coming days due to the deficit rainfall and drought situation this fiscal.

The state government has ordered for making provisions of water tankers in all the blocks experiencing water crisis, he said.
