social mediaBy Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, March 22, 2016 : Odisha government on Tuesday directed the departments to use social media platforms for dissemination of information in a bid to promote citizen engagement in governance.

Henceforth, all government departments will use social media like Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Google search etc. to establish two way communications between the government and the citizens.
Chairing a high level meeting at secretariat, chief minister Naveen Patnaik directed all the departments to take appropriate actions for using social media. He said that the state government is committed to openness and responsiveness in governance.

Underscoring the importance of social media in connecting to people, Patnaik made it clear that the government, which functions at multiple levels, needs to have prompt interaction with people directly. He also advised to use precise and accurate information in social media.

A high level committee will be formed and a consulting agency will be engaged for the purpose.

While the Information Technology department will work as the nodal agency, Information and public relations department will be the content manager for the purpose.
