dadan labourBy Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, March 7, 2016 : As many as 126 migrant labourers including children and women on Monday arrived in Bolangir after they were rescued by the district labour department officials with the help of Tamil Nadu police.

The rescued migrant labourers were subjected to exploitation in Tamil Nadu, officials said.

“Allegedly they were sent to Tamil Nadu by Bablu Khan, a labour contractor of Kantabanjhi. The rescued labourers are from Bangomunda and Titilagarh. A case will be registered against him and appropriate action will be taken against him under section 8 of the Inter-state Migrant Workman Act,” said Madan Mohan Paika, district labour officer Bolangir.

Three months back over 100 persons from Bongamunda and Titlagarh blocks of Bolangir district had gone to Tamil Nadu to work as migrant labourers.

Labour department officials swung into action with the help of Tamil Nadu police following allegations of torture and non-payment of their rightful wages there.
