By Bizodisha Bureau, January 6, 2016: Central Vigilance Commissioner K.V. Chowdary on Wednesday stressed on the importance of awareness on vigilance measures as key to prevent corrupt practices.

Delivering the 15th Edition of National Aluminium Company Ltd [Nalco] Foundation Day Lecture Series on ‘Preventive Vigilance : Key to Good Corporate Governance’, here, the CVC expressed his concern that most of the people in the country lack awareness about the vigilance procedures, which results in corruption and misconduct.

He emphasized that the vigilance system and procedures should be consistent and simplified, as well as the mechanism should be robust, continuously tested.

Chowdary also focused on a systematic and continuous feedback system. He opined that the PSUs and corporates, along with the government bodies should give due importance to preventive vigilance as well as predictive vigilance.

Nalco chairman and managNalco Foundation Day picing director, Tapan Kumar Chand, in his welcome address said, “As a corporate philosophy, Nalco has focused on value-based management, taking manifold steps to promote transparency, fairness, responsibility and accountability that are cardinal principles of Corporate Governance.”

On this occasion, a book titled ‘Aluminium : the Strategic Metal’, authored by Chand was also released. The book aims at promoting the strategic use of aluminium.

The first-ever Nalco Kalidas Awards were also handed over to Prof. Harekrishna Satapathy, vice chancellor [VC], Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati and Prof. Gangadhar Panda, VC, Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya, Puri on this occasion for their significant contributions in the field of teaching and propagating Sanskrit.

Both the awardees received cash award of Rs.50,000/- each, citations and scrolls of honour from Chowdary.
