03 Congress Pressmeet by Jitendra Shingh in Bhubaneswar(1)

The opposition Congress on Wednesday lambasted prime minister Narendra Modi and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik for what it called ‘failing to provide good governance’ since they came to power a year back.

The Congress attack comes on the eve of one year completion of the rule of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) at the Centre and in the state respectively.

Senior Congress leader and former union minister Jitendra Singh said the Modi government failed to deliver on its promises on all fronts.

“Narendra Modi’s ‘Suit Boot ki Sarkar’ is against the common people. It is only favouring few crony capitalist and trading partners,” he said, adding that the central government has slashed social sector spending by a whopping Rs.1.75 lakh crore in one year alone.

Odisha state Congress president Prasad Harichandan said the Patnaik government in Odisha failed to provide good governance in the state.

“The state government has succeeded on two fronts. It succeeded in managing the BJP and the CBI. As a result, the inquiry in the chit fund scam has slowed down,” said Harichandan.

The BJD was not raising any issues of neglect by the central government, fearing the CBI probe into the chit fund scam in which several ruling party leaders were involved.

However, both the governments at the centre and state are hell bent to come out with success stories of their first year of governance.

In Odisha, the Naveen Patnaik government has asked the ministers to submit reports of the achievements of their respective departments in the last one year. Once all the reports would reach the CMO, a comprehensive report would be compiled for public consumption, a BJD spokespersons said here.
