The involvement of senior officials of Odisha government is coming to the fore as more and more confidential documents regarding the official communication on the dubivious activities of Seassore Chit company has been leaked by Jayanta Das, a Puri based RTI activist.

Jayanta Das in an e-mail communication to the mediapersons on Satuday along with all the documentary proof alleged that the role of Ahaya, one senior police official and former ADG, Odisha Crime Branch is suspicious in the chit fund scam. “He should be arrested in the mega chit fund scam”, he demanded.

The RTI activist said that the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau of Department of Revenue functioning under the Ministry of Finance had informed the Odisha government about the illegal running of money circulation schemes by Seashore in its Letter dated March 22, 20111 in continuance to the confidential letter dated February 2, 2011 from the Deputy director general & JS, CEIB to the Chief secretary of Odisha government.

He said that the intelligence inputs of Ministry of Finance had clearly mentioned that Seashore had been luring the innocent people through various schemes by offering very high interest rate, but the interest paid has been shown in the accounts as dividend and has been paid out of deposits only and the company has no commensurate business income to make such huge interest payment.

The above mentioned letter was forwarded by the Chief Secretary of Odisha to Abhaya, the then ADG of Crime Branch on May 3, 2011. But, he did not take any action against the company, which duped thousands of depositors in due course of time and suppressed the said letter with ill intention for more than one year and finally First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Prasant Das and others of Seashore chit Fund Company on July 18, 2012 in CID, CB Odisha.

Jayanta Das questioned Abhaya, “Why have you not taken any action against the Seashore Chit fund company after getting the above mentioned letter from the Chief Secretary of Odisha. Has you done so due to some favour from the chit fund firm?”, he questioned.

The RTI activist said that it is questionable that the senior police official has maintained his silence about this chit fund company when the state government was busy signing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the fake chit fund firm for various projects with Seashore?
