By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 31, 2017: The proposed urea manufacturing plant will come up at at the premises of the now defunct fertilizer plant of the Fertilizer Corporation of India in Talcher by mid-2021, according to Odisha chief secretary, Aditya Prasad Padhi.
“Government of India is going to set up a new fertilizer manufacturing unit at the premises of the old plant of the FCI in Talcher. Central government public sector undertakings (PSUs) will set up the new plant. The new plant will produce urea,” Padhi told reporters after a high-level meeting held here on Thursday.
The new plant will be completed by the mid of 2021 and the State government will extend all cooperation, Padhi added.
“The new plant will first produce ammonia using coal gasification technology from which urea will be produced as the end product. This was discussed in today’s meeting. We have been informed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the newly constituted company that the plant will be completed by the mid of 2021,” he added.
The issues of land acquisition, water supply, electricity supply and infrastructure figured cropped up at the meeting, Padhi said and added that the State government will provide all assistance to the new plant in accordance with its policy.
“Since the new plant will come up at the old site of FCI’s plant so there will be no land acquisition for the same but they will be developing a coal mine for this plant at Arakhapala which is located at a distance of eight km from the plant. For this land acquisition will be required and as many as 500 families spread over in four villages will be evicted.
