Odisha has finally something to smile with Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu showering largesse on the state by hiking budgetary allocation by 120% compared to the last year’s allocation of Rs 1420 crore in his maiden Railway Budget presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The state has received an allocation of Rs 3112.48 crore in the 2015-16 Railway Budget against its demand of Rs 3,200 crore.
Even chief minister Naveen Patnaik recognizes the higher budgetary allocation by the Railways to the state.
“I understand that there is an overall increase of about 53% in the Budget outlays of Railways. Odisha also has been correspondingly given an increase in the allotment. Further due allocations have been made for our ongoing major projects like Khurda-Bolangir, where the state government has committed to give land free of cost and bear 50% of the project cost. Some of the traditionally neglected railway sections like Sambalpur-Titlagarh, Sambalpur Talcher have been given due weightage,” Patnaik told reporters here.
