By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, May 10, 2016 : Stalemate continues in Odisha Legislative Assembly since the second part of the ongoing Budget session of the House began on May 3.
The House continued to witness uproarious scenes and the House was adjourned repeatedly after the all-party meeting called by Speaker Niranjan Pujari on Tuesday failed to bring any result.
The Opposition has questioned chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s silence on issues such as money transfer to BJD account from “dubious” sources, ouster of chit fund scam enquiry commission chief Justice M M Das and food supplies and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Das Burma.
The opposition Congress and BJP lawmakers were seen shouting slogans in the well of the House demanding resignation of Chief Minister.
The BJP members were seen wearing black aprons in protest.
The Speaker again held an all-party meeting in the evening which was attended by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. It also failed to produce any results.
“In the evening, the CM attended the all-party meeting. However, he did not commit anything on our demands. The discussion could not produce any results today. However, we cannot say the exercise failed. I’m hopeful some results will come when we again sit together tomorrow,” said Leader of the Opposition Narasimha Mishra.
BJP legislator Pradeep Purohit said his party had been asking the CM to make a statement on the floor of the House on the chit fund case and the money his party BJD received from some chit fund scam accused. But the CM was not committal on the issues which he said was the main reason of the stalemate.
“If the CM answers our queries, perhaps that can bring things back to normal. However, for some reason, he is afraid of making a statement. How would the House function under such circumstances? This looks like a conspiracy of the government to me,” said Mr Purohit.
He, however, added that he expected the House to function normally on Wednesday.
