By Bizodebi_prasad_mishradisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 12, 2015 : Odisha government has urged the Central government to review the $12 billion Posco steel project in the state according to state industry minister Debi Prasad Mishra.

The state government is in discussion with the Central government to resolve the impediment arising out of the proposed steel project in Odisha. “The Central government has to take a call over the issue. Now, the ball is in centre’s court,” Mishra told media persons here on Wednesday.

He once again reiterated that the state government has no information about Posco backing out from the steel project proposed to be set up near Paradip port.

Mishra said the state government is in discussion with the central government over the issue to resolve the bottlenecks, like raw material security, regulatory issue and others.

The government is ready to provide raw materials to Posco through state PSU Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), the minister remarked.

In New Delhi, several Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs met union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday to impress upon him to facilitate the coming up of Posco project in Odisha.

BJD MP Kalikesh Singhdeo said Jaitley was apprised about the Posco issue and he assured to look into the matter positively.

Posco – the sixth largest steel producer in the world, on Tuesday signed an agreement with Uttam Steel and Power to set up a 3 million ton per annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant in Maharashtra.

The Odisha project of Posco has faced a decade-long uncertainty due to regulatory issue, land acquisition and assured raw material linkage to the proposed plant.

The South Korean company had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government in 2005.
