Bizodisha Bureau, Puri, July 4, 2015 : . Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday inaugurated a number of projects built for the upcoming Nabakalebar festival in Puri amidst protests by opposition Congress.
Naveen faced a black flag demonstration by Congress workers as he went on an inauguration spree launching as many as 10 new projects in this holy town ahead of the Nabakalebara Rath Yatra.
Ridiculing the inauguration spree undertaken by the chief minister, the demonstrators said it was of no meaning as many Nabakalebar works including roads, over bridges, medical and drinking water facilities were still incomplete.
As many as 26 Congress activists here were held after they staged demonstration against the chief minister. Ten persons were also detained by the police in Malatipatpur area where Patnaik inaugurated a new ultra-modern bus terminus, police sources said.
After arriving at in the holy town in the morning, Patnaik inaugurated the state-of-the-art bus terminal at Malatipatpur on the outskirts of Puri town. The new bus terminal, built at a cost of Rs 73.5 crore, has drinking water facility, passenger waiting rooms, dormitory, a cafeteria, ticket reservation counter, route chart, CCTVs and a police outpost.
The chief minister also inaugurated a seven-km bypass road connecting Malatiparpur and Puri-Konark road, a new over bridge and a bridge at Atharanala. He also opened a special building for mothers and infants at the district headquarter hospital here.
A new fire station building, a new administrative building of ITI at Talabania, an integrated control room to keep watch on movement of people in the town and a new CCTV control room were also inaugurated.
Three power grid stations were inaugurated at Baliapanda by Patnaik who also laid the foundation stones of a new Sevayat Welfare Housing Project and a government medical college and hospital at Baliguali.
Patnaik also inaugurated a new block inside Gopabandu Ayurveda college, two buildings at the 200-bed ID hospital, a new Shri Jagannath Fire Station building, an integrated control room to keep watch on the movement of people in the town and a new CCTV control room.
After laying the foundation stone of a new Sevayat Welfare Housing Project, the chief minister inaugurated a new administrative building of ITI at Talabania. From there, he went to Baliapanda and inaugurated three high-powered power grid stations.
