The state government has decided to set up the first HRD centre in Utkal University. A budgetary allocation of Rs 5 crore has been made during this fiscal. It has already sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore in the first phase.

The teachers of Plus Three colleges will be trained on the mode and skill of classroom teaching, preparation of lecture notes, inculcating knowledge on new subjects and provide quality teaching by analysing various syllabuses, at the HRD centre.

The duration of the training of the teachers will depend on the subjects. For each subject, the duration of the training is expected to be between four and six weeks, sources in the Higher Education department said.

The teachers, who were earlier trained at the Academic Staff College of the University, also will be trained at the HRD centre. The centre will have a lecture room, library, conference hall, 100 rooms with double-bed arrangement for each room, and a dining room.

The HRD centre will have specific arrangements for the stay of the teachers during their training.

“The training would be imparted by some senior teachers of the Utkal University and other universities outside the state, and experienced teachers of the Institute of Mathematics, Institute of Physics and IIT,” said Utkal University vice-chancellor Prof Ashok Kumar Das.

Besides Utkal University, the centre would be opened at Sambalpur University, Brahmapur University, Fakir Mohan University and North Odisha University in phases.
