By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, September 7, 2026: The metal major National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the largest integrated aluminium unit in Asia, has entered into an agreement on Monday at Dubai with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), for the deployment of EGA’s UAE-developed DX+ Ultra aluminium smelting technology for NALCO’s 0.5 million tonne per annum (TPA) brown field smelter expansion project at Anugola in Odisha.

The proposed brown field expansion will add approximately 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of aluminium production capacity at Anugola. Together with NALCO’s existing capacity, the expansion will enable the Company to move towards an overall aluminium production capacity of about 1 million tonnes per annum.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in NALCO’s ongoing expansion programme and its endeavour to strengthen its position as a globally competitive aluminium producer under the guidance and support of Ministry of Mines, Government of India. Under the agreement, EGA will provide NALCO with the technology license, know-how, designs and technical information required for implementation of the DX+ Ultra technology, along with technical support during the various stages of project implementation.

The DX+ Ultra technology is a high-amperage and efficient aluminium smelting technology, designed to support higher productivity and improved energy performance. Adoption of this technology is expected to enable NALCO to develop an efficient and competitive smelter with optimised capital and operating costs.

The Technology Licensing Agreement was signed in the presence of Brijendra Pratap Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NALCO and Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer, EGA. The signing ceremony was attended by Jagdish Arora, Director (Projects & Technical), NALCO and Abhay Kumar Behuria, Director (Finance), NALCO. The agreement was signed on behalf of NALCO by Biju K, Chief General Manager (Projects), and on behalf of EGA by Abdalla Zarouni, Acting Executive Vice President – Midstream, EGA.

Speaking on the occasion, Brijendra Pratap Singh, CMD, NALCO, said that with EGA’s DX+ Ultra technology, we are confident that the Anugola smelter expansion project will emerge as one of the most efficient aluminium smelters in India. “The adoption of an advanced and efficient technology for NALCO’s smelter expansion will not only support the company’s growth and expansion plans but will also strengthen India’s aluminium ecosystem and this expansion will contribute significantly towards India’s economic growth while supporting greater environmental efficiency and the vision of a Viksit Bharat”, he remarked.

The partnership between NALCO and EGA marks an important milestone in NALCO’s ongoing expansion programme and its efforts to enhance technological efficiency, productivity and sustainability in aluminium production. The 0.5 million TPA brown field expansion at Anugola will further strengthen NALCO’s production capacity and contribute to meeting the growing demand for aluminium in strategic and emerging sectors of the Indian economy.
