By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, December 2, 2024: The cyber criminals looted around Rs 125 crore in separate incidents reported from various parts of Odisha in three years between 2021 and 2023, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly replying to a question on Monday.
A total of 6,368 cases were registered and as many as 1388 persons have been arrested during this period, informed Majhi in Assembly on Monday. The CM made the statement in the House while replying to a question by MLA Prashant Behera. The MLA wanted to know how many cyber fraud incidents were reported and the amount swindled from people.
According to the Chief Minister, Rs 40, 39,70, 514 were lost in 2037 registered cases in 2021. Similarly, Rs 27, 56, 138 were refunded to the victims. In 2022, the cyber fraudsters duped victims to the tune of Rs 37,28,96,982 and Rs 97,30,582 was returned. In 2022, fraud to the tune of Rs 47,94,50,178 was reported in 2348 cases. Out of the total amount, Rs 1,52, 59, 965 was returned. As per the official data, a total of 425 persons were arrested in 2021, 442 in 2022 and 522 persons were nabbed for various cyber crimes in 2023.
