By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, June 12, 2022: Southwest monsoon is expected to advance into parts of south Odisha by June 15 or 16, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
The forecast indicates the state may receive first monsoon rain during the three-day Raja festival beginning from Tuesday. “Conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of monsoon in parts of the state by June 15 or 16,” said head of the regional IMD centre, H R Biswas. He said till arrival of monsoon, light to moderate rain would continue mostly in south Odisha and adjoining coastal pockets.
As per IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, most parts of Konkan (including Mumbai), some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some more parts of Karnataka today.
The conditions are favorable for further advance of monsoon into some parts of north Arabian sea, remaining parts of Konkan, some parts of Gujarat state, most parts of Madhya Maharashtra, entire Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, some parts of Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral and northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
“Conditions would continue to become favorable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat state, some parts of Marathwada, some more parts of Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, most parts of Bay of Bengal, entire Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, some parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharakhand and Bihar during subsequent 2- 3 days,” said IMD.
