Odisha Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday asked the concerned departments to complete all pending project works for the ensuing Nabakalebara festival in Puri before the onset of monsoon.

Chairing over a high-level review meeting here, the CM asked the officials to complete the pending works ahead of schedule and strictly follow the road safety rules in the newly constructed roads.

The review found out that of the 20 road project works undertaken for the development and expansion of roads connecting Puri, 14 have been completed while work on the remaining six projects is in advanced stage.

While development of roads inside Puri town has been completed, the remaining ancillary works would be completed by June 15. To ensure smooth flow of traffic during Nabakalebar, 21 parking places in around Puri town are being developed and would be completed by June 15, officials said.

Works secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan said of the remaining project work, the road over-bridge (ROB) at Malatipatpur on the outskirts of Puri would be completed in the first week of May, a flyover between Pipili and Nimapara by May 30, Gop-Balighai road by the first week of June, an over-bridge near Sakhigopal by June 15, Samajajpur Road by May 30 and a bus stand at Malatipatpur by June 15.

It was also revealed that the work on the doubling of the 17-km long stretch of railway track between Sakhigopal and Puri is progressing satisfactorily and is scheduled for completion by May 15.

Besides, construction of two additional platforms at Puri railway station would be completed by May 31 while the construction of platform no-5 and 6 of Bhubaneswar railway station would be be completed by June-end, informed Railway officials present at the meeting.

Officials of the energy department said steps are being taken to provide uninterrupted power supply to Puri town during Nabakalebara.

Among others, chief secretary GC Pati, secretary, energy and senior officials of the concerned departments were present at the meeting.
