By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, September 1, 2021: The Monsoon session of Odisha Assembly on Wednesday got kicked off with a stormy note soon after the passing of condolence motion as a tribute to the departed senior BJD leader and former minister Bijayshree Routray.
The House witnessed virtual pandemonium forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House on the very first day of the monsoon session.
With the specter of drought haunting the state, the opposition tried to corner the treasury bench. As many as 27 districts are facing drought due to deficient rainfall. The Opposition has moved an adjournment motion over the present ‘drought-like’ situation in Odisha and the State government’s alleged ‘inaction’, soon after the daily proceedings of the State Legislative Assembly concluded.
According to sources, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Minister Arun Sahoo is likely to furnish the reply on the matter raised by Opposition. More fireworks are set to start when the house decides to take up the motion.
Earlier on Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved the condolence motion in the House via Video Conference as a mark of tribute to the former minister and senior BJD leader Bijayshree Routray, other several senior leaders who had recently passed away.
The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Pradipta Naik, who is convalescing in a hospital, has also attended the monsoon session through VC and he seconded the motion moved by CM.
