By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, October 18, 2022: The Odisha government has decided to bring a policy for forensic investigation of road accident fatalities. The Tansport department has prepared a draft memorandum under the banner of Odisha Crash Investigation Policy, 2022.

According to the draft policy, a crash investigation team will probe road accidents, especially with three or more fatalities.

The crash investigation team will include a police investigating officer, a designated engineer of the concerned road owing authority, and a technical officer of the regional transport office, according to the draft policy.

The forensic investigation of crashes is a process of systematic collection and analysis of information relating to a road accident to identify the factors influencing the crash, said a technical officer of the transport department.

The draft policy further said that the concerned police officer will initiate a probe within 24 hours of an accident and immediately pass the information obtained to other members of the team with a recording of statements of the victims and eyewitnesses.

The technical officer of the regional transport office will inspect the vehicles involved in accidents while the designated engineer of the concerned road will conduct inquiries at the accident spots.
