By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 30, 2022: With millets being given priority by both the central and state governments paving the demand among the public, the Odisha Millets Mission (OMM) on Tuesday organised a Millet Recipe Event at Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology (IHM) here.

United Nations has announced 2023 as the International Year of Millets to promote Millets and Millet-based food into the mainstream.

Odisha Millets Mission plans to include Millets in regular diets by preparing various delicacies based on it. OMM is working with over 1 lakh Tribal farmers in 19 districts and 143 Blocks in Odisha.

In the event, OMM conducted training programmes and seminars for the chefs of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) on millet-based recipes. Sarada Ghosh, Principal of IHM Bhubaneswar, highlighted the various benefits of Millets.

A total of 18 OTDC chefs participated in the event to learn about different types of food items that can be prepared from millets.

She said, “Health is wealth, and now everyone is becoming health conscious”. She suggested the chefs present to experiment with millets in various dishes and thanked Odisha Millets Mission for the innovative effort.

Lecturer Kumar Gaurav of IHM Bhubaneswar demonstrated how to prepare delicious recipes by including millets. “Millets require simple cooking methods just like any other food item,” he added.

Mandaradhara Sahoo, a chef at OTDC who participated in the Millet Recipe Event, said, “We got an idea on how to prepare delicious food using different types of millets. Millets are beneficial for the body, so the food items based on them is absolutely necessary for everyone. We are eager to take these delicious preparations and serve them to our customers.”
