By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, September 16, 2020: Odisha on Wednesday reported the biggest single-day spike as well as the highest single day recovery of COVID-19 patients.
While 4720 fresh positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, the discharge of 4121 patients from different hospitals on Wednesday also turned out to be the highest recovery.
The state’s tally of persons affected by COVID-19 has shot up to 1,62,920 out of which , the total recovered cases in the state have gone up to 1,29,859, officials said.
Out of 4,270 new coronavirus cases in Odisha, Khurda district led the charts with 876 cases, followed by Cuttack which saw 374 cases. The state capital Bhubaneswar continues to be the COVID-19 hotspot with the temple city reporting a total 17,809 cases so far.
Among the new cases, 2,478 are quarantined cases and 1,792 are local contact cases while 11 more patients have succumbed to coronavirus while undergoing treatment in the last 24 hours, the Health & Family Welfare Department on Wednesday said.
State capital Bhubaneswar in Khurda district has turned a Covid-19 hotspot with the latest spike. The city now has 17,809 total cases. Of the recovered patients on the day, maximum 752 were reported from Khurda followed by 440 from Cuttack, 275 from Puri, 272 from Jajpur, 268 from Nuapada, 187 from Angul, 181 from Bargarh, 150 from Dhenkanal, 126 from Mayurbhanj, 122 from Sonepur, 119 from Koraput, 108 each from Balasore and Balangir and 103 from Ganjam district, according to Health and Family Welfare department.
A total of 51,320 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Odisha in the past 24 hours. Out of this, 9,006 were RT-PCR tests, 42,202 were Rapid Antigen Tests and 112 were TrueNAT tests. The highest, 5,410 tests, were conducted in Ganjam, followed by 5,245 in Kendrapara and 3,634 in Mayurbhanj.
