By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, January 9, 2020: The Odisha government has cleared NTPC’s Talcher Thermal Power Station expansion plan worth an investment of Rs 7,698 crore.
The proposed expansion plan entails setting up state-of-the-art 1320 (2 X 660 mw) super critical power units on the existing premises of 460 MW Talcher Thermal Power Station in Angul district.
Incidentally, the NTPC board of director had cleared the project in 2018 which involved scrapping the existing six units at the thermal power station totalling 460 mw comprising of 4 units of 60 mw and 2 units of 110 mw.
NTPC has been operating its plants at high efficiency levels. Although the company has 15.56% of the total national capacity, it contributes 22.74% of total power generation due to its focus on high efficiency.
