By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, Apr 16, 2017 : Buoyed by electoral success in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the BJP government’s achievements over the last three years saying that it is time for the partymen to take a “long jump” and hasten the pace of economic and social development targeted especially towards the deprived in society.
Addressing the national executive meeting of the BJP here, Modi gave his party a new agenda – P2 and G2 — that stands for Pro-Poor and Good Governance, to envisage his vision of empowering the poor and taking India to the top rung of developed nations by 2022, when India completes 75 years of Independence, union minister Nitin Gadkari told reporters at a press conference.
“In all his speeches for 20 years from 1922 to 1942, Gandhi spoke of ridding India of British rule and it took that long for people to develop the thought that they achieve Independence from the British,” the PM was quoted by Gadkari saying at the meet.
Explaining his “long jump” theory, PM Modi told the party members that the government has achieved a great deal in three years, but it does not mean that the pace of development has to remain the same; in fact it should be hastened so that it is like taking a long jump towards development.
Asking his party to go into a mission mode for the “service to the poor” in the lines of party ideologue Deendayal Upadhyay, Modi outlined a new economic mantra of developing “Jaladhan, Vanadhan and Jandhan.”
Jaladhan is developing the country’s water resources so that maximum water is made available for irrigation and farmers do not have to commit suicide.
Vanadhan is the forest resources that can take care of lives of the tribals who live in forests and make a living from there as that would not only improve their lives but will also take care of ecology and environment.
Jandhan is developing the economic power of the poor, like it was done by initiating bank accounts for the deprived masses.
“India is a rich nation with poor people” PM Modi said, which can move ahead only by empowering the poor.
In an attempt to reach out to sections that are still not with the BJP, PM Modi asked the party to reach out to all sections of deprived people including the minorities.
In the context of Muslims, he mentioned that the development programmes for backwards should also include OBCs among the Muslim community and to ensure that Muslim women are not deprived of justice like on the issue of “triple talaq” where the women are at the losing end.
“There should be no conflict within the Muslim community over this, but Muslim women should get a just deal in this matter,” the PM said.
