chit fundBy Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, May 25, 2016 : The Justice M M Das Commission of Inquiry, probing into the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state, on Wednesday submitted ts interim report to the Odisha government.

The Commission’s report is understood to have worked out modalities for refund of money to small depositors who had lost their money to chit fund firms.

“The report is on small investors,” Rout, told reporters after submitting the report in a sealed cover to the principal secretary of the Home department Asit Tripathy.

The Commission has prepared the interim report on the basis of 26,976 affidavits out of the more than few lakh affidavits filed with it, sources added.

The Commission after identifying small investors with below Rs 10,000 deposits has sent show cause notices to 85 Ponzi firms for refunding money to depositors. While some of the companies have appeared before the Commission, some are yet to appear before it. The Commission in the report has also recommended action against these firms, sources revealed.

initially, the state government on July 9, 2013, formed a one-man commission headed by retired judge of Odisha High Court Justice R K Patra to probe the chit fund scam. The state government on February 5, 2015 had appointed retired Judge of Odisha High Court Justice M M Das as the head of the commission following the sudden demise of Justice Patra,
