By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, April 26, 2016 : The three day Shakespeare Festival organized by Utkal Rangamanch Trust to commemorate William Shakespeare’s 400th death anniversary concluded here on Tuesday.

Kolkata based “Naye Natua” theatre group staged “Othello” in Bengali.

Othello, a Moorish General in the Venetian army is accused of deceit and secret marriage to Desdemona , by Roderigo, a rich shrewd gentleman, whom he wanted to marry. He is joined by Cassio, high ranking soldier, by also defaming Othello of sharing his wife Emilia’s bed. Both plan to plot and to report to Duke of Venice.

But the Duke sends Othello to command the armies against invading Turks, which was destroyed by a storm and Othello celebrates where Cassio creates trouble and Othello dis
misses him from his army. Roderigo and Cassio plan to use Emilia to entice Othello and create suspicion in Othello that Desdemona is betraying him for Cassio.

Desdemona drops the handkerchief which was Othello’s first gift and emotionally holds dear to his heart. Emilia plants the handkerchief in Cassio’s place and Othello enraged, hurt and anguished resolves to kill her ……
