By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, April 19, 2016 : Consumers – domestic, commercial, institute, will get prohibitive LED bulbs at a cheaper price with the launching of Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme in Odisha.

Minister of state for energy Pranab Prakash Das on Monday launched the scheme and with this Odisha became the 14th state in the country to adopt UJALA initiative.

“We have about 60 lakh consumers in the state. Domestic consumers are eligible to buy 10 bulbs each while 20 will be provided to commercial consumers. However, institutions will be able to buy as per requirement. We have plans for replacing six crore bulbs. These bulbs last 25 times more than conventional bulbs and 90% energy efficient in comparison to ordinary bulbs and 50% in comparison to CFL bulbs,” said Das speaking at the launching of the scheme in the state.

The union ministry of power has taken the initiative to facilitate implementation of energy efficiency projects with the launching of this scheme which is implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) – a joint venture of NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and POWERGRID.

Under the scheme, consumers are eligible to buy 9W LED bulb at Rs 85 each.

The scheme permits domestic consumers to buy a maximum of 10 LED bulbs for Rs 85 each, which would cost in the market Rs 310 each.

Similarly, commercial consumers are eligible to buy a maximum of 20 LED bulbs while institutions are eligible to buy a maximum of 50 LED bulbs under the scheme.

The LED bulbs provided under this scheme are of a superior quality and come with a life of over 25,000 hours.

EESL provides free of cost replacement for all technical faults within three years.

A customer needs to provide a copy of latest electricity bill along with a copy of ID proof.
