By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, March 10, 2016: The Odisha police on Tuesday took former Congress legislator Ramesh Jena from Sanakhemundi, Berhampur on a five-day remand for investigation in connection with his alleged involvement in tender fixing and a few other criminal cases.
The local SDJM court here had on in Tuesday evening allowed the police to take the former MLA on a five-day remand while permitting his family members and lawyer to meet him for half an hour every day during the remand period.
Sources said police amidst tight security escorted Jena from the Brahmapur circle jail to Gopalpur police station for questioning.
Jena’s counsel Nirmal Sahu met him at the Gopalpur police station premises.
Apart from tender fixing, the former MLA has been charged with possession of illegal firearms, hurling of bombs, criminal conspiracy and harbouring of criminal. He will be quizzed in connection with these charges during the remand period, police sources said.
Jena was arrested by the police on March 6.
