By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, February 15, 2016 : The temple city of Bhubaneswar could not find a place in top 20s in the Swacch Sarvekshan 2016 survey, according to an announcement by the union urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu at New Delhi on Monday.
The capital city incidentally had topped in the Smart City list recently.
However, Bhubaneswar figured among the Top Mover (East Zone) award securing 24th position among 73 cities across the country. The scond one from Odisha – Cuttack emerged as 59th and has been bracketed in the Slow Mover list.
Naidu gave away the award to Bhubaneswar Mayor Anant Narayan Jena received the award for being one of the cleanest cities in the country.
Mysuru [formerly Mysore in Karnataka] has topped the list in Clean City list followed by Chandigarh and Tirucharapalli.
Swachh Survekshan survey, conducted in cities with 10 lakh and above population, has revealed that cities in south and east India have taken better to the Swachh Bharat Mission than cities in north and west India.
The nation-wide survey was conducted to assess the measures taken by the cities to improve sanitation, present service levels including infrastructure developed and in progress, deployment of men and machines, strategies being followed, efforts to bring about behavioural changes and the overall impact of Swachh Bharat Mission besides promoting a spirit of competition among cities.
