Our Correspondent in Paradip, October 5, 2015 :Paradip Port Trust (PPT) has retained the second position among the major ports of the country.
It handled the highest ever traffic of 36.06 million tonnes in the first six months (April to September-2015) in the current financial year as compared to 34.35 million tonnes of cargo handled during the corresponding period of the previous year, according to a PPT release.
There had been an increase of five percent over the traffic handled during corresponding period of previous year. During this period in the current financial year upto September 2015, thermal coal traffic increased by 8.71 pc.
The port handled 14.83 million ton of thermal coal against 13.64 million tone handled during the corresponding
period of previous year. Similarly, POL traffic registered a growth of 6.40 pc implying the port handling 9.52 million ton of POL against 8.94 million ton handled during the same period of previous year.
About 771 Vessels were handled in the port during the first six months of the current financial year against 692 Vessels handled during the same period of the previous year registering an increase of 11.41% over the corresponding period of previous year, added the release.
