By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, October 1, 2015 : The National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be implemented in 14 districts of Odisha in the first phase from Friday.
As a part of the implementation program, digitized ration cards will be distributed on Friday in the first phase. In Bhubaneswar, chief minister Naveen Patnaik will distribute the cards to the beneficiaries, while ministers will distribute the same in different districts.
In the first phase, 93.35 lakh beneficiaries of 26.33 lakh families will be brought under NFSA. In the second phase, the State government has planned to provide the digitized ration cards by October 31.
From November 1, beneficiaries will be able to get food grains at subsidized prices through the digitized ration cards.
Notably, a total of 3.26 cr beneficiaries will be eligible for rice and wheat worth 5 kg each at Rs 5 and Rs 3 per kg respectively every month under this programme.
The Chief Minister asked the officials to ensure that the ration cards reach the intended beneficiaries, expediting distribution at district-level and redressal of any grievances from beneficiaries, according to food supply and consumer welfare minister, Sanjay Das Burma.
