OdishaBy Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 24, 2015 : The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Monday served notice to the state government on the spate of infant deaths at the state-run Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (SVPPGIP), better known as Sishu Bhavan, Cuttack in the last four days caused due to alleged negligence of doctors, nurses and other staff.

Taking suo moto cognizance of the matter, the OHRC on Monday issued notices to the health secretary, director National Health Mission (NHM), Odisha and superintendent of SVPPGIP to reply within three weeks.

With five more deaths reported today, the infant death toll in the state reached 22n in just four days.

Deaths of 17 infants were reported from the hospital till yesterday within 72 hours since Friday allegedly due to negligence by doctors and staff of the hospital.
