By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 16, 2015 : The Navaratna public sector metal major, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), has launched ‘Nalco ki Ladli’ Scheme, to mark the 69th Independence Day Celebration.
Nalco chairman-cum-managing director, Tapan Kumar Chand flagged off the scheme saying that this new scheme part of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme, initiated by Govt of India.
“Nalco shall promote meritorious girl-students from BPL families studying in the periphery schools of company’s production units at Angul and Damanjodi in Odisha,” Chand on Saurday announced while hoisting the tri-colour at company’s Smelter and Power Complex in Angul yesterday.
Nalco since inception has contributed Rs.4,981 crore to the state government and Rs.19,111 crore to the union government towards taxes, duties royalties and dividends, besides allocating 2% of its net profit towards Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR] activities.
Recently, as a PSU-partner in Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, Nalco has spent around Rs.6 crore in constructing 433 toilets in 202 schools in Angul, Koraput and Vizag districts.
Addressing the gathering, Chand said that NALCO would continue its CSR and welfare activities in an empathetic manner, for the social well-being. He urged the state government to allot Pottangi Bauxite Block, which would not only boost the company’s growth plans but also its social commitment in the tribal belt.
