By Bizodisha Bhubaneswar: A group of the ruling Biju Janata Dal BJD legislators on Wednesday launched a protest in front of the chief general manager’s office against the state-run telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL)’s decision to relocate 110 2G and equal number of 3G telecom towers to Madhya Pradesh’s Indore,
They also submitted a memorandum addressed to union minister for communications, Ravi Prashad demanding withdrawal of the order and enhance communication infrastructure in the state.
“The people of Odisha cannot tolerate the unilateral anti-Odisha decisions of BSNL/Telecom authorities of India”, the memorandum signed by some 8 legislators said.
Earlier, the corporate office of BSNL has directed the Odisha telecom circle to relocate the towers. Surprisingly, while there is a requirement of 300 more towers in the state shifting 220 BTS and node B towers has drawn the ire of Odisha lawmakers.
There are about 2,777 telecom towers in Odisha. Another 423 were being planned by the month of September this year.
Meanwhile, Bijaya Nanda Mishra, the CGM of the Odisha telecom circle said that such relocations are normal.
