Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, July 2, 2015 : The Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (OMFED) has unveiled an ambitious plan to double its milk procurement to one million litres per day and more than double marketing of milk by 2020.

omfed_logo1At present, OMFED is marketing of five lakh litres of milk per day which it plans to enhance to 12 lakh litres per day by 2020.

Meanwhile, the state government has proposed the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development [NABARD] to set up a fully automated dairy plant to process five lakh litres of milk per day at Choudwar in Cuttack district. For this, it has sought a loan of Rs.285.71 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund, Sethi said.

IDMC Ltd., a subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has already prepared a detailed project report for the proposed plant, the OMFED CMD added saying that the project would be completed within two years. Milk and milk powder and other dairy products will be produced in the plant.

The new plant will help OMFED continue as the market leader through modernization, processing, packaging and product designing, Sethi informed.
