Union Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the Central government has planned to set up steel plants in four States one each in Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.
Speaking to mediaperson at Asansol in West Bengal, the minister said to meet the rise in demand for steel, his government has plans to set up four steel plants.
Tomar was in Asansol to oversee the preparations of inauguration of the expanded IISCO plant there by Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week. His ministerial colleague and local BJP MP Babul Supriyo accompanied him.
Tomar said the plant’s expansion cost had shot up to Rs 16,000 crore from the estimated Rs 10,000 crore nine years ago, during foundation stone laying ceremony for expansion by then prime minister Manmohan Singh.
