The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bangalore based Tessolve Semiconductor Pvt Ltd [TSPL] for establishment of a characterisation lab here at a cost of Rs 7.98 crore at International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT).

This lab will come as a fillip for the development of the ESDM (electronic system design and manufacturing) sector in the state. The construction of the lab will be completed within six months.

The MoU was signed between STPI director, here Manas Panda, and TSPL president V Veerapan.

The project will come up on 215 acre of land in PPP (public-private partnership) mode.

Out of the total project cost, the state government and STPI will share Rs 7 crore equally. TSPL will invest Rs 98 lakh to support infrastructure and managing the lab for six years.

Incidentally, this will be the second such facility in the country. The first one was established in Karnataka by STPI in association with the government of Karnataka.

“The Lab will test the characteristics of a new chip before it goes for mass production,” an official release said,

The setting up of the lab will act as vital linkage for establishment of proposed Electronic Manufacturing Cluster and ESDM incubation centre for the start-ups in the state.

The department of electronics and information technology, under the union ministry of communication and information technology had awarded in principle approval for the project in July last year.

The primary purpose behind setting up the facility at IIIT is to develop the skills of the B. Tech and M. Tech students, so that they can specialize in chip testing, officials said.
