The specter of industrial unrest seems to be haunting Odisha once again with the brutal killing of M L Rungta Ferro Alloys Company additional vice president, Siba Narayan Mishra near Motanga village in Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.
Though the police promptly arrested two employees of the company on charges of killing Mishra, the ghastly incident has sent shock waves among the company executives and has shaken their confidence on the administration in maintaining law and order.
“The shocking news of brutal attack on Mishra leading to his death in the broad day light has shaken the industrial fraternity. The culprits are none other than the employees of the said Ferro Alloys Factory. We are extremely concerned about the safety and security of the Management Team and other supervisors/ workers of the industries in the State. This is not the lone case. For quite some time such dastardly actions have already taken place in other parts of the State. The miscreants have to be dealt with iron hands by the Administration to ensure proper law and order in the industrial belt”, the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Ramesh Mahapatra told “Bizodisha.com”.
The industry bodies UCCI, CII, FICCI and others have condemned the heinous action.
A delegation from UCCI and CII met the chief secretary G C Pati on Thursday and submitted a letter demanding strong and exemplary action on the culprits and to check such incidents in future.
“Such incident has created panic amongst the Company executives and strong measures are required to be taken against the’ culprits not only to restore the confidence of the industry but also to act as a deterrent for such lawlessness act in future. Since our State is going through major industrialization process, safety and security of people employed in industrial sector needs to be given special attention so that such criminal and militant activities by miscreants/workmen can be arrested in future”, the letter said.
UCCI president said, the chief secretary has assured the delegates to take strong legal action immediately and issued direction to the home Secretary and Police Chief in this regard forthwith. He suggested that the Industry associations may also advise their member to report even such smallest incidents to the Police by filing F.I.R s and keeping the higher echelons of the administration informed.
