Steel city Rourkela is gearing up for the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi will arrive here on Wednesday around noon to dedicate to the nation 4.5 million ton expansion and modernization of public sector unit, Rourkela Steel Plant [RSP] a an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore.
RSP is one of the country’s first generation steel projects functioning under the national public sector unit Steel Authority of India (SAIL).
On Thursday, a high level delegation of the Union steel ministry headed by its secretary Rajesh Singh had visited the city and held a meeting with the top brass of the RSP on the scheduled visit of the prime minister.
A MoU between state government and union coal and railway ministries will be signed for development infrastructure for efficient evacuation of coal in presence of the prime minister.
Modi is also scheduled to address a public meeting.
Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram on Friday informed that the PM would arrive in the city on April 1 morning to dedicate to the nation the modernisation and expansion work of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).
The police department too has tightened security in the city.
“We have pressed sniffer dog squad and District Voluntary Force (DVF) units into service. Frisking through hand-held metal detectors is being done at railway station, hotels, lodgings, bus stops and all suspicious places. Patrolling has been increased”, said inspector S. K. Biswal of Plant Site Police Station.
This would be the first visit of Modi to Rourkela after assuming office of the Prime Minister last year.
