Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel has bagged the National Safety Award under the “Longest Accident Free Period (LAFP) in terms of man shifts worked during three consecutive years ending with the contest year-2012” for Metal Mines – Mechanised Opencast category.
The mine was selected for the award by the National Safety Award (Mines) Committee, union, ministry of labour and employment.
Rajesh Patel, Chief (Mining), Sukinda Chromite Mine, Tata Steel and Gouranga Das, General Secretary, Sukinda Chromite Mine Workers’ Union, Tata Steel received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee in a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi recently.
In 1983, the ministry instituted the National Safety Awards to promote a competitive spirit amongst mine operators for improving safety standards in mines and give due recognition to outstanding safety performance at the national level,
Earlier Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel had received the prestigious 15th Annual Greentech Environment Award-2015 in gold and silver category of Metal & Mining sector given at Kolkata on 28th January, 2015 for demonstrating highest level of commitment to environment management and best practice. It was also awarded for its exemplary work under Corporate Social Responsibilities.
