Lawyers in Odisha will boycott the courts on Friday in protest against gunning down of an advocate allegedly by a policeman in a court in Allahabad.
Expressing solidarity with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha Bar Council today condemned the incident and called for a statewide boycott of courts by lawyers of all bars Friday.
Orissa High Court Bar Association and All Odisha Lawyers’ Association passed separate resolutions calling upon the lawyers of the state to join tomorrow’s protests.
“We have intimated our boycott decision to the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court and accordingly urged all the bars of the state to join in the protest,” said a High court spokesperson said.
Besides, All Odisha Lawyers’ Association decided to submit a memorandum to the President through the respective district collectors tomorrow.
The state committee has also urged the UP Chief Minister for granting an ex gratia of Rs one crore to the family of the deceased advocate.
Sub-Inspector Shailendra Singh has been alleged to fires at 30-year-old advocate Nabi Ahmed in the Allahabad district court premises on Wednesday. A case of murder has been registered against him, police said.
