Chit fund scam accused BJD leader Pravat Tripathy, who was recently released from jail on bail, on Thursday met chief minister Naveen Patnaik in his Assembly chamber, fueling speculation of revocation of his suspension order.
Mr Tripathy, an MLA from Bankin constituency in Cuttack district, however, claimed it was just a ‘courtesy call’ and his suspension from the party did not figure in the meeting.
“I am a suspended member of the BJD. I don’t hesitate to accept this. But I didn’t go to discuss my suspension with the CM. It did not figure in my talks with him,” the lawmaker told reporters after the meeting.
The BJD leader, who spent nearly four months in Jharpada jail here in the city, was released from jail on March 3.
Stating that the meeting was just a “courtesy call,” Mr Tripathy said although he tried to meet Mr Patnaik on Wednesday, it did not materialise as the CM was out of the state.
