Justice M.M Das, the newly appointed chief of the Commission of Inquiry to probe the chit fund scam in the state after the death of its former head Justice R.K. Patra, on Friday advised the depositors not to panic about the volume of affidavits relating to their deposits pending with the Commission.
In an interview to a news channel, Justice Das said he would take adequate steps to identify small investors, who had deposited their money in the chit fund companies, and ensure that they get their money back.
On the Rs 300 crore corpus fund announced by the state government to return the money to the duped depositors, he said; “Formation of the fund is the decision of the government; the Commission has nothing to do with this.”
Nearly 10 lakh duped depositors have filed affidavit with the Commission seeking return of their money.
