The Parliamentary standing committee of the Union Home ministry headed by Pradip Bhattacharya on Friday arrived in Gopalpur in South Odisha to review the relief, restoration and rehabilitation work in the cyclone-hit Ganjam district.
According to official sources, the 18-member committee from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, arrived at Gopalpur where it had a meeting with Ganjam district collector.
Later the team visited the cyclone shelter at Kanamana village under Chhatrapur block in the district where they will have a meeting with the managing committee officials in charge of the management and maintenance of the cyclone shelter.
Besides, they would also discuss with the locals and civil society groups the post-cyclone relief and relief works.
From Kanaman, the committee will visit Uppalaputi and review the ongoing construction work of 196 cyclone shelters under the Odisha Disaster Reconstruction Programme (ODRP) scheme. The committee members will also interact with the local inhabitants.
The Committee later visited Narayanpur village under Rangeilunda block and oversee 74 cyclone-resistant houses and talk to the beneficiaries staying in these houses.
The committee is scheduled to have a meeting with the chief secretary, Ganjam collector and officials of the concerned departments in Bhubaneswar.
