The CBI joint director Rajiv Singh and DIG of the agency’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) S Baghchi arrived here on Thursday and took stock of the progress of the investigation into the Odisha chit fund scam.

The two officials held meeting for over four hours with CBI  SP M.K. Sinha, CBI SIT SP Rajiv Ranjan and the Investigating Officers (IOs) probing various cases related to the scam.

Sources said the meeting discussed about expediting the investigation into the chit fund scams in the state.

In the meanwhile, the CBI conducted searches at  11 places in Kolkata and five places in Odisha against Asha Agro Equipment Industries (India) Ltd in connection with the chit fund scam in the state, a spokesperson for the agency revealed in New Delhi.

Among the places where the search was conducted were the offices and residences of Managing Director Tarun Kumar Barui and directors Ranjit Santra, Susanta Mohapatra, Ananta Barik and Parimal Biswas.

The five places where raids were conducted in Odisha by the CBI are Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Remuna, Baliapal and Jaleswar, the spokesperson said.

The search operation was still on, the spokesperson added.
