By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, August 11, 2022: Gautam Adani-led Adani Group is all set for a foray into the aluminum business in Odisha with the chief minister Naveen Patnaik-led high-level clearance authority (HLCA) clearing total 10 proposals with total investment potential of Rs 74,620 crore.

The Group, which already has a presence in ports, airstrip, mining development and gas distribution businesses in the state, has received the state government nod for a 4 MTPA alumina refinery and 175 MW captive power plant at bauxite rich Kashipur area in Rayagada district with a total investment of Rs 41,653 crore.

This will be the single-largest investment of the company in Odisha and is expected to create as many as 24,047 jobs in the state. The approval for the Adani Group months before the third edition of the Make in Odisha conclave came as a shot in the arm for the state government.

Adani group’s alumina refinery will be the third in the region as Aditya Birla Group Company Hindalco has already set up its unit in the region and also earned an approval for a second unit near Kashipur.

Moreover, the HLCA also approved a proposal of Sompuri Infrastructures Private Limited, a joint venture of Adani Group and Thriveni, to set up a pellet plant and a filter cake unit at Dhamra in Bhadrak district, with an investment of Rs 7,811 crore.

Odisha is also set to get a green hydrogen and green ammonia plant at Paradip with ReNew EFuels Private Limited receiving a nod with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore.

Other approvals given by the HLCA included expansion proposal of Aarti Steels Limited’s Athagarh unit with investment of Rs 3,000 crore, establishment of slurry pipeline and beneficiation plan of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India in Keonjhar district with investment of Rs 1,490 crore and Rungta Metals Private Limited’s proposal for a steel plant at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj.
